As you pass through the ancient fortified gates of Saint-Émilion, time seems to stand still. This village, world-renowned for its exceptional vineyards, is above all a unique architectural gem, entirely carved from golden limestone. By staying at Les Hôtes de Saint-Émilion II, you are not simply passing visitors: you are residing at the very heart of this living history, where every cobbled lane whispers a century of secrets.

The town's history truly begins in the 8th century, when a Breton monk named Émilion, originally from Vannes, decided to withdraw from the world to live as a hermit. He settled in a natural cave in the Ascumbas forest (the region's ancient name). His piety, wisdom, and the miracles attributed to him quickly attracted numerous followers, thus laying the foundations for a flourishing religious community. Over the centuries, the village has grown around this spiritual core, becoming a major stop on the Way of St. James.

What makes Saint-Émilion exceptional, to the point of being the first wine-growing jurisdiction inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1999, is the perfect harmony between its architecture and its surrounding landscape. The village is an amphitheater of raw stone. To fully grasp its magic, you must put down your phone and lose yourself in its “escalettes.” These medieval alleyways, paved with pebbles once used as ballast in ships that sailed up the Dordogne River, are extremely steep. Climbing towards the Tour du Roy or walking along the old 12th-century ramparts, you will discover spectacular viewpoints where Romanesque tile roofs blend harmoniously with the perfect alignments of the vineyards. It is this preserved authenticity, this atmosphere of a "living monument", that we invite you to experience daily during your stay with us.
